Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Hair Dr. Charge for the procedure?
We charge a flat fee per graft. There are no additional surgical fees, anesthesia fees or follow up fees. You will have to fill 3 prescriptions that are written in generic form, so they will generally run a patient about $15.00-$20.00.
How long has Hair Dr. been performing Hair Restoration?
Hair Dr. Kansas City has been performing Automated FUE for 5 years. We are very excited to be expanding to the St. Louis market and to be able to offer this technology and experience to those patients that are interested in Hair Restoration. Both Male & Female Patients.
What makes Hair Dr. different than Hans Weimann or Bosley?
There are 3 main differences. The first is that your consultation is done with the physician and or the actual Hair restoration specialist who will be performing your transplant. Second, WE DO NOT CUT A PIECE OF YOUR SCALP OUT OF THE BACK OF YOUR HEAD. Third. At Hair Dr. You will ALWAYS receive Personal, Quality and Reputable Care.
What is the difference between the Artas Robotic and what Hair Dr. Does?
The Artas is an FDA Approved Robotic System. The procedure is very similar to that of what we do at Hair Dr. St. Louis & Kansas City. There is no cutting of the back of the head & minimal risk of infection. However, the cost for the Artas is substantially more. You still have technicians that will implant the grafts into the desired area of concern and you still have to have the technicians there to run the Artas machine. One major difference is that when the harvesting is taking place, and when you have experienced hair technician harvesting and implanting, the hair technician is going to know which way the hair follicle will need to be extracted and implanted based on the patient and their growth patterns. The Artas does not distinguish this in any way. It is extremely important for the follicles, especially when developing a hairline, to be placed the proper way and in the proper growth pattern of the individual patients hair growth pattern. The Artas is also not FDA indicated for Female Patients or African American Patients.
Hans Weimann told me that with the NeoGraft, I would have little scars everywhere that the hair was taken for the harvesting proces, Is that true?
Absolutely Not! That statement is completely false. If that were true, then they would not be advertising or using the Artas Robotic. The technology for the harvesting is almost identical. However, with Hair Dr. we actually have a human being that extracts with an automated hand-piece to ensure that the follicles are harvested correctly and to the patients growth pattern. The Artas does it independently.
What is Automated FUE?
Automated FUE is a device which facilitates the harvesting of follicles during a Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) transplant, dramatically improving the accuracy and speed over previously used manual extraction instruments.
What other things will I need for after the procedure?
We highly recommend that the patient have an airplane neck pillow. This helps the patient to sleep and be comfortable the first 3 nights, protect the patient’s neck and the grafts. We also recommend that you have some extra strength Tylenol at home to use after 24-48 hours, if needed.
What is the down time with Automated FUE?
Each patient recovers differently. However, the average time of recovery is 7-10 day.
How do I know if I am a candidate?
Candidates for restoration are those individuals with hair loss that have sufficient donor follicles on the back of the scalp to transplant into the frontal balding areas. The best candidates are men and women with only frontal or partial loss and with adequate donor follicles. At Hair Dr. The Doctor will assess the amount of coverage needed to give you the appearance you desire.
Will the hair that is taken out for the harvesting grow back?
The hair that is taken for harvesting will grow back where it is implanted, however, it will not grow back on the back of the head from where it was harvested.
Do I have to shave my head or have it cut a certain way?
No, you do not have to shave your head or have you hair cut a certain way.
Will I have a visible thinner area on the back of my head where they will harvest for the transplant?
No. Our experienced hair technicians go in a very random pattern throughout the harvesting area so that when the hair that is not extracted for the procedure grows back, no-one will ever know that you had a transplant.
How much are the consultations?
The consultations are completely FREE.
How much is the average cost per procedure?
There is truly no average cost per procedure. The reason for this is because every patients needs are different. Some have more hair loss than others. Some patients just want a little filler on their density. Some patients need a completely new hairline and crown. Depending on the individual and their needs will depend in how many grafts that person will need to achieve the look they are wanting.
How long before my hair is fully grown in?
It takes a full 12-18 months for a patient to see the full results of a Hair restoration Procedure.
How long does the procedure last?
Depending on how many grafts that you are receiving will depend on how much time it will take to complete the procedure. It could be as little as a few hours and as much as 8 or 9 hours.
